Altai is a semi-autonomous tiny republic in southern Russia. Its geographical composition features mountainous terrain, rivers and lakes. Here you can gain an insight into the rich cultural heritage of the Altaian people.

Touring Altai:

The region is best toured on foot, though you can also tour on horseback which is probably the best option of traveling through difficult terrain.

Mount Belukha:

Mount Belukha is the highest peak on the Altay mountain ranges that stretch into neighboring Mongolia, Kazakhstan and China. The Mountain’s peak is 4,506 meters high.

Economic activities in the region:

Altai is rich in mineral resources which include; gold, platinum, silver, zinc and manganese. The Katun River produces hydroelectricity some of which is used in neighboring regions.

Other top tourist destinations in Altai are; Lake Dzhangyzkel and Lake Teletskoye which is listed as a World heritage site by the United Nations. The republic’s forest areas are also teaming with wildlife which includes; brown bear, wolverine, fox, moose, snow leopards and hare.
