Communication in Russia

The Communications sector is fairly developed and inline with reforms currently taking place in the Country, postal and telecommunications services have improved considerably and are much affordable.

Postal Services:

Postal services in Russia are operated by the Federal Postal Communication Agencies and about 60 licensed private operators. There are also a number of International Mail companies in the country including; FedEx, DHL and UPS. There are post offices in even small towns. Post office operating times are usually 8am to 7pm Monday to Saturday.

Internet and email services:

High speed internet services are available in Russia. Internet access is relatively easy while in the country. There are a number of Wi-Fi access points available in St Petersburg and Moscow and are convenient for those traveling with enabled laptops. There are also internet cafes many opening for 24 hours each day. Average costs of browsing the web are about $2 per hour.

Telephone services:

Telephone services in the country have been privatized and costs of using services may differ. Public phone booths can be used for local and international calls. A phone card is required to use them and can be easily purchased from general stores, news agencies and post offices. There are also a number of mobile phone service providers providing coverage around the country.
