Kamatchka Peninsula

Kamatchka Peninsula:

The Kamatchka Peninsula extending from the mainland of Russia at the far east of the country situated between the Sea of Okhotsk and the Pacific Ocean.

This is a serene and spectacularly beautiful volcanic belt with over 100 volcanoes, 29 of them still active. Kamatchka features untampered landscapes, hot water springs and geysers.

The area is heritage listed by the United Nations.

Wildlife and tourism:

Kamatchka has a large brown bear population, wolverine, Stellars sea eagle and its waters are populated with wild salmon, blue whale, gray whale, sea lions, otters and seals.
Other attractions are the Khodutka river and its warm waters; the Kurilskoye lake which teams with wildlife.

Tour packages are offered for visitors in this region and feature detailed itineraries. The place can be seen on foot, by car or the spectacular helicopter rides.

Towns:

Petropavlovsk is the main town and in Kamatchka and the capital of the administrative region of Kamatchka.
