Since enhancing its traffic enforcement, the Russia police service has seen road incidents dropped by half compared to the same period last year.

Russia police service had implement tough new measures to combat reckless driving, which results in around 30,000 road deaths each year in Russia. Several hundred drivers have already received civil imprisonment while hundreds of others had big fines imposed on them.

In the past traffic fines in Russia was very low compare to western standards, for example going through a red light would cost equivalent of $US 5 while DUI (driving under the influence) could cost you $US 200 or up to 15 days of jail time.

But some human rights activists say that new fines won’t solve driving offences problems on the Russia roads but will gave some Russian corrupt police officers a chance to make more money from bribes due to some people who what to buy their way out of the situation.
